![]() ![]() It was definitely a disappointment, but I'll still pick up the Thompson omni when it comes out. I had read the Kelly Thompson Captain Marvel/Empyre crossover issues and thought they were great, so I thought this would be a fun way to get to know a character that I didn't really know much about. The omnibus ends with a Secret Wars tie-in limited series that makes no sense out of context. Now that expanded fan base is getting their own series, in a manner of speaking: Captain Marvel & the Carol Corps, cowritten by DeConnick and Kelly Thompson, with art by David Lopez, will launch. At one point Carol loses her memory, apparently permanently, and it doesn't matter to the series AT ALL. (W) Kelly Sue DeConnick, Kelly Thompson (A) David Lopez, Filipe Andrade (CA) David Lopez Welcome to Hala Field, the Battlefield domain where being a part of. DeConnick gives Carol a fun supporting cast and then barely uses them? Captain Marvel can fly but her defining character trait is that she loves airplanes? Her friendship with Jessica Drew is often featured, which is a cute idea, but Jess has no personality here whatsoever? Most of the stories seem to have decent foundations, but end up being confusing. Those are basically the best things I can say about this omnibus. ![]() And there's a nice queer moment at the end. This run has some good art, although the styles are inconsistent. Kelly Sue DeConnick, writer on Captain Marvel, Bitch Planet, and Pretty Deadly, has been making the rounds today discussing how the comics industry has. ![]()
